Rich Gannon will not join Jon Gruden’s staff with the Raiders

NFL Oakland Raiders Jon Gruden

As new Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden looks to form a staff in hopes of making the team relevant again, one legend from Oakland’s past will not be joining him on the sidelines.

Former Raiders Super Bowl quarterback Rich Gannon noted on Wednesday that he will not take a job on Gruden’s staff after being linked to the quarterbacks coach opening.

This is probably music to the ears of one Derek Carr after Gannon questioned his work ethic following Gruden’s introductory press conference on Tuesday (more on that here).

Gannon, who has no experience in the coaching ranks, likely wasn’t formally offered the job in the first place. It’s primarily been him that’s talked about the possibility of joining Gruden’s staff.

As it relates to any potential friction between Carr and Gruden, there were reports last week that their two personalities might clash.

In any event, the Raiders will be looking for another quarterbacks coach to light a fire under Carr following a disappointing season for both the signal caller and his team.
