The Los Angeles Clippers are going to have to decide in the next several days whether they want to trade center DeAndre Jordan or risk losing him for nothing in free agency during the summer.

It has long been speculated that the Clippers might look to move Jordan before next week’s trade deadline. Among the teams that have shown interest, he’s been closely linked to the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now comes this report from Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times noting that Jordan and the Clippers are not close on an extension.

This could very well expedite trade talks with other teams. The closer we get to the February 8th deadline without Jordan being moved, the more other squads will start looking at other possibilities.

Jordan, 29 is averaging 11.2 points and 14.8 rebounds per game. He also leads the NBA with a .668 shooting percentage. It would be the sixth consecutive season Jordan has led the Association in that category.

The talented defender has a player option for next season, but will likely decline it in order to receive a long-term max contract in free agency. That could lead to him moving on from the Clippers altogether.

This is one of the top stories to follow as the NBA prepares for what might very well be one of the most-active trade deadlines in recent memory.
