When Aqib Talib takes the field at the Pro Bowl in Orlando this Sunday, it could be the last time fans see him wearing a Denver Broncos helmet. The reason for this is that, per a report, he’s expected to be put on the trade block this offseason.
“Although Talib has two years left on the six-year, $57 million contract he signed with the Broncos in March 2014, Denver is expected to place him on the trading block because of financial considerations,” per 9News in Denver.
Interestingly enough, we highlighted Talib as a player who could potentially become a cap casualty this upcoming spring, due to the same factor. This is especially true because only $1 million of his $12 million cap hit will count as dead cap, should he be cut. Still, one has to believe the Broncos would rather get something in return for the Pro Bowl cornerback, rather than simply cut their losses.
Talib will be 32 when the 2018 NFL season begins. Denver has some huge decisions to make salary-cap wise (most importantly at the quarterback position) and has a couple of younger cornerbacks in Chris Harris and Bradley Roby that will likely be the focus going forward.
Talib has been a highly productive player since joining Denver in 2014, racking up 11 interceptions and scoring six touchdowns. He’s also made the Pro Bowl each of his four seasons with the Broncos. With that in mind, we’d be surprised if the Broncos didn’t at least get some serious offers for his services.
