Lane Kiffin rips voters for snubbing FAU

Lane Kiffin

Florida Atlantic football coach Lane Kiffin is back on Twitter. Only this time, he’s not trolling Nick Saban, Alabama, or Tennessee. No, Saban is ripping the AP and Coaches polls for where the Owls finished the season.

It was presented on Twitter that Kiffin’s Owls’ did not finish in the Top 25 despite the fact that their current 10-game winning streak is the second longest active streak in the country (to only UCF) and that FAU dominated its bowl win, hammering Akron 50-3. So, what do you think, coach? Was your team snubbed?

There’s an undeniable challenge for schools like FAU when it comes to the rankings. Because they play largely non Power 5 conference teams, impact of their wins is minimal while their losses are crushing — at least to the average voter. While FAU did win its final 10 games, it also lost three of its first four. Two of those were to non Power 5 teams (Navy and Buffalo), with Wisconsin being the other.

So, it’s easy to see why the Owls finished outside of the Top 25.

But here’s an interesting question for anyone who omitted FAU from the Top 25. Right now, are there 25 other teams in the country that would beat the Owls on a neutral field? That’s a harder claim to make.
