Josh McCown wants to play, return to the Jets in 2018

New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown NFL

Quarterback Josh McCown had a surprisingly good season for the 13 games he played for the New York Jets in 2017. This was up until the point he suffered a season-ending broken hand.

It was not the ending McCown had in mind. But he said he would like to play for the Jets again in 2018, which seems to be where his path is leading.

“Right now, that’s how it’s looking,” McCown said on NFL Network’s Total Access (h/t Connor Hughes of NJ.com). “At this time of the year, I go through those conversations with my family, talk with them through that, pray through that.

“But where we’re at right now, I feel like I want to play … I’m looking forward to the next few months, seeing what happens, and I’ll be ready to go.”

McCown completed a career-high 67.3 percent of his passes to a receiving corps that was not exactly full of household names in 2017. He was also on course to pass for what would have been a career-best 3,601 yards had he been able to finish out 2017.

Currently, the Jets have no better solution on their roster at quarterback. And, it helps that the Jets’ brass have all indicated that they would like McCown back.

Though, with how impressively McCown performed in 2017, it is possible another club in need may reach out to the 38-year-old veteran during free agency. Either way, it looks like we will see McCown in some type of capacity out on the field in 2018.
