Hawks’ Dennis Schroder could reportedly be traded before deadline

Dennis Schroder

With the NBA trade deadline approaching next weeK, we’re starting to hear rumors surface about who might actually be moved.

Most recently, the talk has surrounded the likes of Tyreke Evans, DeAndre Jordan and Kemba Walker.

We can now throw another somewhat high-profile veteran into the mix. According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Atlanta Hawks have placed enigmatic point guard Dennis Schroder on the trade block.

Though, it comes with a bit of a caveat.

“Though Schroder is only 24, he’s not part of the Hawks’ long-term equation with his inconsistent, inefficient performance. However, any move involving Schröder is more likely to happen in the summer,” O’Connor noted.

Signed to a four-year, $70 million extension by Atlanta back in October of 2016, Schroder has not necessarily lived up to expectations. He is averaging a team-high 19.6 points and 6.4 assists per game. But the young guard is also shooting just 44 percent from the field, including a .295 mark from distance.

Other teams will see Schroder’s point-per-game numbers as somewhat of an outlier given that he’s the only legitimate scoring threat on a Hawks team that enters Monday’s action with the worst record in the NBA.

Despite this, there will definitely be interest in Schroder’s services. Whether something comes to fruition prior to the trade deadline remains to be seen.
