Marcus Lattimore set several programs records while at South Carolina, and the former NFL running back is returning to the school.
According to Lou Bezjak of The State, Lattimore will be the director of player development on Will Muschamp’s staff.
Lattimore, who coached the last two years at nearby Heathwood Hall, became a South Carolina legend almost immediately upon arrival in 2010. He scampered for 1,197 yards and established a new school record with 17 touchdowns.
Unfortunately for Lattimore, knee injuries ended his sophomore and junior campaigns. The second injury was particularly horrible. Lattimore dislocated his right knee, tore every ligament and suffered nerve damage. He never truly recovered from it.
Though the San Francisco 49ers drafted Lattimore in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, he never appeared in a regular-season game.
Muschamp tried to hire South Carolina legend soon after he retired, but the NCAA said Lattimore’s work with high school kids through his foundation would lead to an unfair recruiting advantage.
While he will no longer be allowed to appear at those camps, Lattimore will now support his alma mater in an official capacity.
