Baker Mayfield is expected to hear his name called early in the 2018 NFL draft, and the Oklahoma quarterback is confident he’ll continue thriving at the next level.
During a recent interview with 92.3 The Fan (h/t DieHards), when asked what he’d bring to the Cleveland Browns, Mayfield said he’d flip the fortunes of the team.
“They’re getting a winner. They’re getting somebody that’s gonna turn their franchise around. They’re getting somebody that no matter what happens, no matter what anybody else on the outside thinks of that franchise, I’m gonna put belief and I’m gonna put new life into that. I’ll do everything I can to win.”
In three years at Oklahoma, he led the program to three straight Big 12 titles and a pair of College Football Playoff bids. Mayfield completed 69.8 percent of his passes for 12,292 yards and 119 touchdowns while tossing just 21 interceptions.
Despite all of that success in college, Mayfield only started to become a respected prospect in 2017. The “character red flag” has followed the emotional player, who also stands at an even 6 feet — well below the prototypical size of an NFL quarterback.
But what Mayfield lacks in height he atones for in confidence. His promise to turn around a franchise is simply the latest example.
Even if Cleveland doesn’t select Mayfield, he’ll head to an NFL franchise in need of a boost behind center. And there’s no doubt in Mayfield’s mind that he’ll provide it.
