Russell Wilson: Aaron Donald ‘best defensive player I’ve ever played against’

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson handed out the highest praise to Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald. The two will be going up against one another in Seattle for an NFC West battle in Week 15 with just one game currently separating the two teams for the division lead.

Wilson, who’s gone against players like Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman on many occasions, said of Donald, “he’s probably in my opinion, the best defensive player I’ve ever played against in terms of actually playing in a game against,” per Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

Wilson noted that saying that is, “a pretty big statement,” pointing to Willis and Bowman as “the top guys I’ve ever played.”

He offered a bit more context as to why Donald gets the nod.

“I think about a guy like Aaron Donald, he’s definitely there too as well, so I have tremendous respect for how he plays the game. He’s really, really tough, he’s really quick, and he’s pretty special. You look forward to those matchups just because those are things that you’ll remember and those are the things that you’ll tell your kids one day ‘I played against this guy,’ and those are fun things. He’s definitely one of those guys that will probably be a Hall of Famer no doubt.”

Wilson has been sacked by Donald four times in seven career games against him. But Donald has taken him to the turf many more times and is a constant source of frustration for every offensive lineman who’s ever lined up against him.

So far this year, Donald has racked up eight sacks, despite skipping training game with a contract dispute. Seven of those sacks have come in the past eight games, showing he’s rounding into form at the perfect time for the Rams, who are 9-4 heading into Week 15.

Wilson better have his head on a swivel, because Donald brings the pain when he arrives in the backfield.
