Report: Hue Jackson will hire OC, turn over playcalling duties in 2018

DeShone KIzer stares at Browns head coach Hue Jackson in NFL Week 7

The Cleveland Browns are sticking with Hue Jackson, come hell or high water, but that doesn’t mean things are going to be status quo in 2018.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Jackson will be hiring an offensive coordinator after the 2017 season.

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com also notes Jackson is willing to turn over playcalling duties to said offensive coordinator next season.

“Sources tell cleveland.com that Jackson will hand over playcalling duties to the new coordinator providing he’s a veteran coach, and there are several of those on the list.”

Jackson is hardly the first head coach who ends up learning that playcalling can infringe upon one’s ability to manage an entire team. The Browns are a mess offensively, too, and could certainly use a new set of eyes to figure out how to maximize the talent that’s on the roster next season.

Cleveland heads into Week 16 with an 0-14 record and needs to win out to keep Jackson from having to honor a very chilling promise.
