On the list of injuries that are seemingly cringe-worthy, a lacerated kidney doesn’t seem to be too great.

Unfortunately, according to this report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that’s exactly what Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is dealing with following Saturday night’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Schefter might be playing it a bit too close to the vest by indicating that Henry’s status is uncertain. He’ll assuredly miss Los Angeles’ final two regular season games as the team looks to inch into the playoffs. After that, it’s anyone’s guess.

Henry, a second-year tight end from Arkansas, has taken over the Chargers’ starting tight end role as a sophomore. In 13 games this season, he’s tallied 45 receptions for 579 yards with a stellar 73 percent catch rate.

With Henry sidelined, the Chargers will have to rely on future Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates to provide Philip Rivers with a consistent target between the hashes. Gates has recorded just 20 catches for less than 200 yards on the season.
