John Elway ’embarrassed’ but won’t make changes until after season

John Elway and the Broncos are looking to move up in the draft

The Denver Broncos have fallen on hard times in 2017, falling off a cliff with eight straight losses. Head honcho John Elway is understandably “embarrassed” about the state of affairs, but he said Tuesday that he’s not going to make any changes to his staff until after the season.

“We’re gonna finish the season out and, you know, obviously we know the expectations of the Denver Broncos,” Elway told Dave Logan of Orange & Blue 760 (h/t Pro Football Talk). “And this has been a tough year. It’s not what the Broncos are about. I’m embarrassed about it, the fact that this has happened, and will do my part to hopefully get this thing turned around next year, and the expectations of Broncos fans should be for us to get this turned around.”

Not only have the Broncos lost eight games in a row, they’ve been getting blown out in the process. This past Sunday, the Miami Dolphins — losers of five straight heading into the game — absolutely crushed Denver 35-9. The only touchdown of the game came on a pick-six, as starting quarterback Trevor Siemian was atrocious.

The team’s issues on offense aren’t the only thing keeping the Broncos from winning, however. The defense has also taken a turn for the worst, and at this point it seems like head coach Vance Joseph is out of his depth leading the club.

It’s going to be fascinating to see what Elway does at the end of the year. He certainly has his work cut out, that’s for sure. He might need a new coaching staff, not to mention a new quarterback. And those don’t grow on trees.
