Jay Cutler will only play in 2018 if he’s a starter

Jay Cutler impresses in first practice with the Dolphins. but can he do the same in NFL preseason Week 2?

Jay Cutler surprised many when he came out of his brief retirement to sign on as quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.

Though, his time under center is coming to an end with Ryan Tannehill expected back for 2018. Cutler addressed what is in store for him next season, saying he wants to play rather than be demoted to a backup role.

We can understand that. Cutler will surely move on to greener pastures if no team wants to take a chance on him as a starter next year. He had already secured a gig at Fox Sports prior to the Dolphins reaching out to him after Tannehill’s injury.

As a starter for the Dolphins, Cutler has performed very “Cutler-like,” having had his stellar games versus his stinkers. Miami currently ranks third in the AFC East at 6-9.

In looking at all of the quarterback injuries there have been this year, Cutler could certainly find his way back in some capacity should this terrible trend continue next fall.

Either way, Cutler seems content letting the cards fall where they may once the 2017 season concludes.
