Fans give Teddy Bridgewater standing ovation as he makes season debut

Teddy Bridgewater

In what has to be considered heartwarming news in Minnesota, Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater took to the field for his team against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Bridgewater took over for Case Keenum with his Vikings up 34-0 in the fourth quarter over a hapless Bengals squad.

It’s Bridgewater’s first live-game action since January of 2016, immediately following the 2015 regular season. Bridgewater suffered a devastating knee injury in the summer of 2016, at which point there was concern that his career might be over.

Some in Minnesota had hoped Bridgewater would take over as starter when he was activated to the 53-man roster earlier in the season. But the brilliant play of Keenum under center put an end to that thought.

This doesn’t make it any less awesome that Bridgewater took to the field Sunday in front of his home crowd. Needless to say, they gave him a resounding standing ovation.

In an NFL season that has been marred by political infighting and other off-field drama, this is most definitely one of the best stories.
