Arizona State to introduce Herm Edwards as new coach on Monday

In a story that’s been a few days in the making, the Arizona State Sun Devils will officially announced Herm Edwards as their new head football coach in a press conference on Monday.

“Arizona State will introduce Edwards as its new coach at a Monday morning news conference,” AZ Central reported on Sunday.

It was reported last week that Edwards — out of the college ranks since 1989 — would be the program’s new head coach if school president Dr. Michael Crow approved the hire (more on that here).

Edwards, 63, has been enjoying a career in broadcasting with ESPN for the better part of the past decade. Better known in the NFL world than the college ranks, Edwards spent a combined eight seasons as the head coach for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.

Edwards takes over a program that failed to take the next step towards national relevance under the recently fired Todd Graham. Edwards’ last experience at the college level was as the defensive backs coach at San Jose State from 1987-1989.
