An already ugly situation between the Green Bay Packers and their former tight end, Martellus Bennett, could get much uglier in the weeks to come.

“The Packers have filed paperwork to attempt to collect the unamortized portion of Martellus Bennett’s signing bonus, per a source,” ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported. “The NFL Players Association said it is ‘aware of the situation and currently monitoring.'”

Bennett was released by the Packers in November. Following his release, Bennett signed with the New England Patriots. He’s subsequently been placed on IR.

Green Bay claimed that Bennett failed to disclose a shoulder injury. There was even clamoring that Bennett might have used the injury as an excuse to get released following the injury to Aaron Rodgers. Bennett vehemently denied these allegations.

Bennett is not known for staying silent on controversial matters. We can only imagine that when the controversial matters directly concern him, he’ll be even more vocal.

Regardless of which side you may take in this argument, don’t expect this to be an under the radar deal.
