Report: Chargers have ‘real concerns’ about rookie Mike Williams’ knee

Chargers receiver Mike Williams

It’s been a rough first season in the NFL for Los Angeles Chargers rookie receiver Mike Williams, who had to leave Thursday’s game with a knee injury.

Williams, who missed the first five weeks of the season with a back injury, needs an MRI to determine the extent of the damage suffered on Thanksgiving Day, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. Thankfully for the rookie, the belief at this time is that his ACL is intact, however is expected to miss some time.

That’s good news, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility surgery might be required to repair other damage, which the MRI will determine.

Los Angeles loved Williams’ game coming out of Clemson this past year. The Chargers selected him with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. To this point, however, he’s failed to do much to justify such a pick, catching just nine passes for 84 yards on 16 targets.
