Winston was hit multiple times Sunday against the New Orleans Saints and didn’t make it through the game. He was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick after passing for just 67 yards with no touchdowns and no picks.
It’s been a rough season on the third-year quarterback, who has both struggled to stay healthy and to play at a high level. Through Week 9, Winston has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,920 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Shutting Winston down makes sense. The Buccaneers are already in bad shape as a whole with a record of 2-6. And we’ve seen what happens when you don’t take a shoulder injury seriously, given the Greek tragedy unfolding in Indianapolis with Andrew Luck.
