The good news is that Brandon Peters didn’t suffer a season-ending injury on the hit that was so severe he ended up being taken to a hospital in an ambulance on Saturday.
The bad news is that Michigan’s freshman quarterback was diagnosed with a concussion and might not be cleared in time to play against Ohio State on Saturday.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters Monday that the team will know more about Peters’ availability later this week, if he ends up being cleared of concussion symptoms.
“(Have) to be able to work up a sweat and exert yourself,” Harbaugh said, per Aaron McMann of MLive.com. “Then you see if the symptoms are there. After that, you come back the next day with no symptoms, then he’s able to practice. That could happen as early as Wednesday, or early as Thursday.”
If Michigan has any shot to beat its Big Ten rival Saturday, Peters has to be involved. We already know John O’Korn isn’t good enough to lead an offensive attack that can keep up with J.T. Barrett and Co. He’s more likely to throw a few interceptions than a few touchdowns.
If Peters is cleared to play, then perhaps the Wolverines can do a better job this week of playing the villain than it did last weekend. With Peters in the game, they were just one score away from beating Wisconsin last Saturday. Once he left, the Wolverines collapsed and ended up being beaten by the score of 24-10.
