Jeremy Kerley suspended four games for PEDs: ‘This is not right’

Jets receiver Jeremy Kerley

New York Jets receiver Jeremy Kerley has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s PED policy. Specifically, Kerley tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid, though he says he never knowingly took the substance.

“I was shocked by a positive test for Turinabol, as I have never knowingly taken any banned substances. I am 5-foot-9 tall and 180 pounds, and I have never used steroids in my life,” Kerley wrote in a statement, per NJ.com. “I’m a good athlete, but anyone can look at my body composition and tell that I’m not a steroid user. While I did not have enough time prior to the deadline to resolve this case, I fully intend to investigate this matter until I am able to figure out what caused the positive test, because I know that I have done nothing wrong. When I find out what substance was tainted, I will pursue all remedies at that time, because this is not right. I have and will always be a clean player, and I look forward to returning to the Jets to play against the Saints next month.”

Kerley has been with the Jets since the start of the season after being released by the San Francisco 49ers. He has caught 22 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown and has made some spectacular plays along the way (like this).

The earliest Kerley can return to the field this year is on Dec. 17 against the New Orleans Saints. The Jets will miss his presence on the field, as he’s their main slot receiver. However, even more difficult will be replacing him as the primary punt returner on the squad in the coming weeks.

New York, at 4-5 on the season, is still in the AFC playoff hunt after winning big over the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. The Jets are visiting Tampa Bay this weekend.
