Browns’ Hue Jackson wants more front office control

As with DeShone Kizer, Kevin Hogan is in over his head.

There’s definitely going to be some sort of power struggle in Cleveland following what promises to be another last-place finish for the Browns this season.

Head coach Hue Jackson and Co. entered Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a 0-9 record. The team has won a grand total of one game since Jackson took on the head coaching role last season.

Needless to say, things are not going swimmingly for this long downtrodden organization. And now, it looks like Jackson himself wants a larger role in player personnel decisions.

“Jackson is believed to want to have his voice heard alongside executives such as (GM Sashi) Brown, Andrew Berry, Paul DePodesta and others,” NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday.

Rapoport went on to note that Jackson does have some input on key decisions, but there’s been a general disagreement over the direction of the roster.

This came to light during last month’s trade deadline after Cleveland failed in an attempt to acquire Bengals backup quarterback A.J. McCarron, at which point Browns ownership put the front office on blast.

The overriding perception here is that Jackson’s job is not safe. He’s the face of the team’s continued struggles. Though, it looks like those sitting atop Cleveland’s brass are more supportive of him than the Browns’ front office, GM Sashi Brown included.

It will surely be interesting to see what comes of this moving forward. It also wouldn’t be a shock if there was some type of shake up within the organization. Whether that includes Jackson acquiring more power or simply being fired remains to be seen.
