Tom Brady on Patriots: ‘We really have to hit the accelerator’

Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are 5-2 with a home game against the Los Angeles Chargers next on the schedule.

As the midseason approaches, Brady shared this about the team’s mindset moving forward.

“We’re close to the midway point; this is when we really have to hit the accelerator,” Brady said, per Mike Reiss of ESPN. “That’s what the good teams do. … To get to 6-2 would be huge for this team.”

The Patriots have lost just twice with both losses occurring at home. To accomplish their sixth win, the Patriots are going to have to outperform a Chargers team that is enjoying a nice three-game win streak.

Brady even acknowledged how well the Chargers’ defense has been playing, and how he will have to brace himself for its pass rush.

“[With] Bosa and Ingram, they have a really good group of pass-rushers. They get to the quarterback and do it in a variety of different ways — some of it is blitz, but a lot of it is just beating matchups,” Brady said. “Those guys are very good one-on-one, so it’s a big challenge for our offensive line. They really get after you. I’m not going to be able to stand back there and hold it forever.”

Brady had better hope his offensive line is prepared. The future Hall of Fame quarterback has taken 18 sacks in seven games.  Plus, the Chargers are coming fresh off of completely shutting out the Denver Broncos last week.

There is no time like the present for Brady’s Patriots to put pedal to the metal to help stay on top of a surprisingly competitive AFC East this year.
