Despite inching out a win Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Redskins suffered would could ultimately be a major injury moving forward this season.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, rookie first-round pick Jonathan Allen will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering a Lisfranc injury in the game.

“Redskins defensive lineman Jonathan Allen will miss the rest of the season, a source said. Allen suffered a Lisfranc injury in Sunday’s win over San Francisco,” Keim reported Wednesday.

The 17th overall pick out of Alabama in April’s draft, Allen started each of the Redskins’ first five games at defensive end. Seen as an elite-level run stuffer, he recorded 10 tackles and a sack during that span.

With Allen out, Washington will likely look at the veteran free agent market to fill his spot on the 53-man roster. Look for free agent acquisition Terrell McClain to start at defensive end for the remainder of the season.

Washington heads into Week 7 ranked in the bottom half of the NFL in points allowed. Allen’s absense won’t help in that regard.
