The Los Angeles Rams have signed a key defender to a four-year extension. But it might not be who you think. With both Aaron Donald and Trumaine Johnson looking for new contracts, GM Les Snead and Co. inked linebacker Alec Ogletree to a four-year extension Thursday night.

Ogletree, a first-round pick of the then St. Louis Rams back in 2013, has started all 21 games since the start of last season. In five games thus far in 2017, he’s recorded 35 tackles and two sacks.
The terms of the extension are not known yet, but it’s likely going to lead to a nice amount of criticism directed at the Rams.
We’re not saying Ogletree isn’t a good player. He’s just not anywhere near the best player in the Rams’ defense. Heck, even as an inside linebacker, he’s not the primary play-caller.
Meanwhile, All-Pro defensive tackle, Aaron Donald remains without a new deal after holding out into the regular season. Donald is arguably the best defensive player in the game. It’s questionable that Los Angeles would extend Ogletree before Donald.
