Martavis Bryant wants a trade to the Warriors

Rumors have started to surround Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant, who reportedly requested a trade. It turns out he wants one, but it might not be legal.

According to Teresa Varley of the Steelers’ official site, Bryant denied that he asked for a trade and also joked that he’d like to join the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

“No, I am good to go. I clarified it last night on my Twitter. I am happy to be here. As far as me getting traded, I would like to get traded to the Warriors.”

Teammate Ramon Foster added that he thought Bryant wanted to switch sports and join the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State might have a battle to obtain his services.

Jokes aside, it’s understandable for Bryant to be frustrated this season, his first since serving a full-year suspension after violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The speedy wideout has mustered 17 catches, 231 yards and one touchdown in six games.

Part of the issue is a disappointing year from Ben Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh’s longtime quarterback has been inaccurate, especially on downfield passes — where Bryant can really make a difference. Roethlisberger has thrown a total of eight interceptions compared to seven touchdowns.

Nevertheless, the Steelers are 4-2 on the season and first in the AFC North. Perhaps that gives Bryant hope that if they’re playing this poorly, a turnaround would make them a real Super Bowl contender.

Besides, Pittsburgh likely wouldn’t grant a trade request anyway. But Bryant’s contract expires after this season, so he’ll enter unrestricted free agency in March — and the Warriors might be a high choice.
