Groundbreaking for Raiders’ new Las Vegas stadium set for next month

The future home of what will then be known as the Las Vegas Raiders

It’s coming closer to becoming a reality. Now that the Oakland Raiders have already announced a relocation to Las Vegas in time for the 2020 season — a relocation that has been approved by the NFL — only one thing stood in the way of it becoming official.

Groundbreaking for the new venue in the desert metropolis.

According to Alan Snel of Las Vegas Sports Biz, groundbreaking on the new venue is slated for November 13th.

“The Raiders plan to break out the shovels and have a groundbreaking at its stadium site on Nov. 13. Not many details are available for the groundbreaking,” the report read. “The Raiders hope to have the $1.8 billion domed, 65,000-seat stadium project finished by mid-2020 so that the team can move straight from Oakland into the palatial new venue on the west side of Interstate 15 at Russell Road and Polaris Avenue in Las Vegas.”

Here’s an official invite that was sent out.

Some in Northern California had been holding out hope that there would be a way for the team to remain in Oakland. With groundbreaking now scheduled for less than a month, that’s more unlikely now than it’s ever been before.

Officials hope to have the venue finished by the middle part of 2020, enabling the Raiders to open the new digs that season.
