Gordon Hayward has message for Celtics fans from hospital bed

One day after suffering a gruesome ankle injury that will almost certainly end his season, Gordon Hayward appeared on a video at the Boston Celtics’ home opener.

“I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s had me in their thoughts and prayers. I’m going to be alright. It’s hurting me that I can’t be there for the home opener. I want nothing more than to be there with my teammates and to walk out on that floor tonight. But I’ll be supporting you guys from here and wishing you the best of luck.”

When the video was played in Boston, Hayward received a thunderous ovation from the home crowd.

Immediately following the injury, Hayward received a tremendous outpouring of support from the sport’s world.
