Browns giving DeShone Kizer another chance

Browns QB DeShone Kizer looked the part in his NFL debut.

An eventful rookie season for DeShone Kizer will add another chapter in Week 8.

Two weeks after losing the quarterback job and one week after getting benched midway through the game, Kizer will open the game for the Cleveland Browns, the team announced.

Sunday will mark Kizer’s seventh start of the season, but he’s still not in a favorable spot to record his first career win. Cleveland will take on the Minnesota Vikings, who have one of the NFL’s stingiest defenses, at Twickenham Stadium in London.

As much as we’d like to suggest this is Cleveland coach Hue Jackson handing Kizer the reins for the remainder of the year, it seems apparent that’s never going to be the case.

Kizer threw two interceptions against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, and Jackson yanked the rookie immediately afterward. It was the third time in 2017 Kizer started but didn’t finish due to performance.

Through seven games, Kizer leads the NFL with 11 interceptions. His 52.0 completion percentage is also the lowest clip in the league, while his 5.4 yards per attempt is second-worst among qualifying quarterbacks.

At this point, the best question is whether Kevin Hogan or Cody Kessler will replace Kizer if he gets benched again.
