NFL upholds Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension

Independent arbitrator Harold Henderson has finally come to a decision on the appeal of the six-game suspension Dallas Cowboys Ezekiel Elliott received from the NFL last month.

In not-so-surprising news, Henderson has upheld the six-game ban.

This sets into motion what should be a protracted legal battle in the court. Late last week, the NFLPA (on behalf of Elliott) filed a temporary restraining order (TRO) in the state of Texas to throw the suspension out. Then, on Monday, the NFL filed a motion to dismiss said TRO.

The legal process itself now promises to really get started. Assuming the Texas court grants the NFLPA’s request of a temporary restraining order, Elliott will suit up in Week 1 against the New York Giants. This whole process then will be brought to district and appeals courts.

If the Texas court grants NFL’s motion for a TRO, Elliott himself will remain suspended until the union follows through with more legal threats.
