Miami CB Malek Young: Hurricanes will try to knock Duke QB Daniel Jones out of game

Duke Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones

It’s pretty rare these days that we hear anything even remotely akin to what Miami cornerback Malek Young admitted the Hurricanes will try to accomplish Friday night against Duke. In an interview with 247 Sports, Young said the Hurricanes are going to try to knock Daniel Jones out of the game.

“He loves to throw the ball,” cornerback Malek Young said. “He takes hits. He don’t like to slide and what we’re going to do is — the goal is to get him out the game. Get him out the game and it’s going to be a good game.”

That’s a pretty stunning admission. Perhaps he doesn’t realize that’s what he’s saying. Perhaps Young is just trying to say Miami is going to be physical. But that’s sure not what it sounds like he’s saying.

It sure sounds like Young is saying he and his defensive teammates are going head-hunting, Gregg Williams-era New Orleans Saints style.

Miami and Duke are hitting the field Friday night, and both teams are undefeated. Duke has gotten off to a surprising 4-0 start, thanks in large part to the play of Jones. The quarterback is averaging 226 yards through the air and 35 yards on the ground this year. He’s also thrown eight touchdowns and just two interceptions. Stopping him will be a big key to Miami’s success.
