C.J. Spiller’ fall from grace has been speculator. A former Pro Bowl performer with the Buffalo Bills, Spiller already found himself released by the Kansas City Chiefs once this summer. It came during final cuts this past weekend, after which point he re-signed with the team.
Now, as the Chiefs prepare for their season opener against the defending champion New England Patriots on Thursday night, Spiller has once again been released.

Unlikely to be active with rookie Kareem Hunt and veteran Charcandrick West set to shoulder the load on Thursday, this could potentially be a procedural move. There’s a chance the Chiefs add Spiller back to their 53-man roster following the game.
Even then, it’s still a rather interesting move on the actual day of the team’s regular season opener. It also comes with starting running back Spencer Ware lost for the season with a knee injury.
In any event, this is the latest example of Spiller’s career taking a major turn. He played for two teams last season, attempting a total of six carries in the process.
