Sheldon Richardson: Odell Beckham Jr. should be NFL’s highest-paid player

Sheldon Richardson

New York Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson knows a thing or 10 about playing with a quarterback not considered one of the elites in the league.

So it is understandable that Richardson questions why the quarterback position is the highest-paid in the NFL. Richardson also defends a statement that New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham made about wanting to be the highest paid player in the league.

He not only threw his support at OBJ, but Richardson ripped quarterbacks in the process.

“Honestly, I understand why he said that,” Richardson said, per Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News. “And honestly, he should be, because the NFL makes a lot of money off of him. You can pretty much throw the ball anywhere in his direction and he’ll go catch it. If this guy’s the guy that’s getting it done day in and day out, he should be the highest (paid). You sell a lot of T-shirts and jerseys off his name, so why not? The dude is a superstar.”

“Bad quarterbacks. It’s a lot. It’s a lot. So, if there are more bad quarterbacks getting paid, then why not pay great receivers?”

In a round-about way, Richardson makes a point. Sadly, he is stuck with one of the worst quarterback situations in the league. Perhaps Richardson can take solace in the fact that quarterback Josh McCown, at a mere $6 million, is the highest-paid passer on the Jets roster.
