Marvin Lewis away from Bengals due to health issues

NFL head coaches Marvin Lewis Cincinnati Bengals

It was reported earlier on Tuesday that Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was not present during the team’s training camp practice. At that time, the Bengals themselves were said to be preparing a statement on Lewis’ absence.

The good news here is that Lewis wasn’t fired or didn’t resign abruptly. The bad news? Lewis isn’t feeling too well and will be away from the team for some time.

“Coach Marvin Lewis will be taking time away from the team to focus on a minor health issue,” the Bengals said in a statement. “He will be back as soon as possible, which could be today or later this week.”

There’s no indication one way or another what is ailing Lewis.

Cincinnati opens its preseason slate Friday at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s possible Lewis won’t be on the sideline for that game.

We’ll have further updates on Lewis’ status when they become available.
