Former NFL player injures officers attempting to flee court

According to a report by Charles Rabin and Carli Teproff of the Miami Herald, former NFL cornerback Dimitri Patterson injured two officers when he fled from a Miami-Dade courtroom on Tuesday. One of the officers — a female — had to be taken to the hospital after suffering a head injury.

Patterson reportedly bolted after the judge ordered him to be placed in custody. Now, he is expected to face battery charges against a law enforcement officer. The reason as to why Patterson was originally in court was not provided.

According to ESPN, Patterson was previously arrested on felony child abuse charges back in 2015.

Patterson’s NFL career began as a Washington Redskin in 2005. He then played four other teams before being released by the New York Jets in 2014 for failing to show up for a preseason game, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.
