Cam Newton forced from practice with shoulder soreness

There’s likely not much reason for concern in Carolina Panthers camp. But any time a quarterback coming off a serious shoulder surgery is pulled from practice, we should pay attention.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera indicated that former MVP quarterback Cam Newton was removed from practice due to a sore shoulder.

“He (Newton) started warming up this morning and said he still felt a little bit sore,” Rivera said, via the team’s official website. “Why push it? Why have him throw with a sore arm and make it worse?”

Newton, who underwent surgery in late March to repair a torn rotator cuff, was also limited towards the back end of Sunday’s practice.

While this shouldn’t immediately be cause for alarm, if Newton continues to remain limited throughout training camp, it could end up becoming a big deal. At the very least, it’s something to keep an eye on.
