Are the Cowboys bracing for a possible Ezekiel Elliott suspension?

Ezekiel Elliott

According to a report on Friday, the NFL is winding up its investigation of Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Elliott faces a potential suspension for allegations his ex-girlfriend made last July that he physically abused her. This, is despite the fact that Elliott was cleared by the police of all charges.

This latest piece of news suggests that the Cowboys could be bracing for a possible suspension for their star running back.

The free agent running back pool is not a very desirable one as training camps have started kicking off. Robinson failed to break out during four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He scored a measly five rushing touchdowns in 55 games.

Hillman isn’t exactly a head-turning name either. He played in just eight games with both the Minnesota Vikings and then San Diego Chargers in 2016. Prior to that, Hillman was a reserve for the Denver Broncos.

The fact that the Cowboys are working these guys out might mean they sense doom regarding the upcoming ruling on Elliott.

Currently, veteran running back Darren McFadden is slated as Elliott’s backup. Alfred Morris, Rod Smith and rookie Jahad Thomas sit behind McFadden on the depth chart.

Elliott led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards in 2016, tallying 15 scores in the process. Needless to say, Dallas needs him on the field to compete for a Lombardi this season.
