Aaron Rodgers on ‘love affair’ with football: Want to play ‘as long as possible’

Aaron Rodgers

Already the best quarterback in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers might just be starting to bloom based on comments he made about his newfound love for the game.

The Green Bay Packers signal caller did an interview with Wilde & Tausch on ESPN Wisconsin when he revealed some personal thoughts that should scare the heck out of opposing defenses. In the past, Rodgers has indicated he might not play into his late-30s like so many of the greats have in the past, and are doing now. Now he’s developing a “love affair” with the game and wants to play it as long as he can.

“[That feeling] has kind of given me the idea that this is what I want to do. I love football, and I want to keep playing as long as possible,” Rodgers said, per Jason Wilde of ESPN. “And when you have that kind of slight shift in your thinking, then you start going to, ‘How can I do that?’ And the way you can do that, in my opinion, is taking care of yourself at a hyper-sensitive level to all the areas that that entails — the rehab area, the eating area, the workout/focus area. And all those combined have kind of given me the idea that I’d like to keep playing at a high level, as fun as it is right now.”

Already a 12-year veteran, Rodgers is starting to see the game unlike ever before. He appreciates all the little things, which is something we got a glimpse into last year when he said he got his legendary Hail Mary technique after discussing it with an astronaut.

So how does a player who’s already on a path to becoming an all-time great move from enjoying the game to falling in love?

“I think it’s a change, a slight change that happened the last few years, where it really has become just a love affair,” Rodgers said. “From [being] a game I always enjoyed playing and enjoyed competing and am hyper-competitive [in] to just really loving the process even more — the practice, the preparation, just enjoying those moments even more.”

This is very, very bad news for the NFC North, and the NFC in general. It’s freaking fantastic news for the Packers and their fans.

In his 12 seasons, Rodgers has passes for 36,827 yards, completing over 65 percent of his passes with 297 touchdowns and just 72 interceptions. He’s already won a Super Bowl and absolutely can win multiple titles before he’s done. We can’t wait to see what he does now that he’s rededicated himself to the game of football.
