Having played just 31 games in his three NBA seasons, Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid can be considered a major injury risk.

Despite averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds, Embiid’s 2016-17 campaign was cut short by a torn meniscus in his knee. Obviously, this has led to renewed concerns about his ability to hold up over the long term.

Though, the Sixers themselves don’t seem to be too concerned about Embiid’s laundry list of injury issues.

In fact, Sixers managing owner Josh Harris just recently indicated that signing Embiid to an extension is the team’s top off-season priority.

“Look, I’d just say we want Joel to be on the team for a long time,” Harris said, via the Bucks County Courier Times. “We want us all to grow old together. That’s the way I would put it.”

Harris went on to say that the organization is “focused” on signing Embiid to an extension. The No. 3 overall pick of Philadelphia back in 2014, Embiid missed his first two seasons with multiple foot injuries. The center has one more year remaining on his rookie contract and will become a restricted free agent following the 2017-18 campaign.

The Sixers can extend Embiid between July 1st up until the start of the regular season. A max deal would call for $100 million over four seasons or $130 million over five seasons.
