Report: Warriors, Andre Iguodala ‘optimistic’ deal can be reached

The anticipation all along has been that the defending champion Golden State Warriors will be able to re-sign veteran forward Andre Iguodala in free agency this summer.

This changed a tad recently with reports suggesting that the 2015 NBA Finals MVP will draw considerable interest on the free agent market.

ESPN’s Chris Haynes recently reported that seven teams are interested in Iguodala, including the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz.

Meanwhile, Golden State is worried about how the luxury tax would impact the team’s finances should it be forced to get into a bidding war for Iggy’s services.

While that might very well still be true, a recent report suggests that the Warriors and Iguodala are optimistic they will be able to come to terms on a new deal.

Iguodala represented the best plus-minus on the Warriors last season. He’s among the most-valuable non-stars in the entire Association.

But the defending champs have eight free agents they have to worry about this summer. That includes formers MVPs Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, both of whom are expected to re-sign.

As it relates to Durant, he seems intent on taking a lass-than-max deal in order for the Warriors to keep their core together. That group includes Iguodala himself.

This will definitely be something to keep an eye on with free agency starting Saturday.
