Report: Rockets actively shopping PG Patrick Beverley

On a team that boasts an offense-first mindset with as many as five three-point shooters on the court, the Houston Rockets never seemed to be a tremendous fit for Patrick Beverley. Despite this, Beverley excelled in  Mike D’Antoni’s first season as the team’s head coach. He averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting at a 38 percent mark from distance.

It now looks like Houston is ready to move on from Beverley during trade season around the NBA.

“The Rockets have been actively shopping point guard Patrick Beverley,” Sean Deveney of the Sporting News reported Tuesday.

The interesting dynamic here is that Houston is attempting to free up cap space in order to be big-time players in free agency next month. Beverley is set to earn $10.5 million over the next two seasons and could be a valuable asset on the trade block.

Beverley is not known for his offensive game, but is one of the top defensive point guards in the NBA. That could be of use for teams trying to overcome the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors dominance over the past three seasons.
