Eagles sign Pro Bowl LT Jason Peters to extension

The Eagles have signed Jason Peters to an extension.

There was some thought given to the idea of the Philadelphia Eagles moving on from Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters earlier this offseason.

With training camp slated to get going later this summer, that can now be thrown completely out the window. Philadelphia announced on Wednesday that it has signed the nine-time Pro Bowler to a one-year extension through the 2019 season.

“Extending the contract of Jason Peters through 2019 accomplishes many things for the Eagles – notably satisfying Peters’ desire to finish his career here, keeping a core player under contract for three seasons, and, while the details of Peters’ contract aren’t public, likely helping the Eagles’ salary cap picture for this season as, historically, these kinds of deal do,” the Eagles announced on their official website.”

Despite the Eagles not announcing the details of the contract, it’s being reported that Peters will earn $32.5 million over the next three seasons with $15.5 million guarnateed.

The veteran was set to count $11.5 million against the cap in 2017. This extension likely gives Philadelphia a bit of relief on said deal.

Peters has started all 62 games in which he’s appeared over the past four seasons. He’s earned seven Pro Bowl trips in eight seasons with the Eagles.
