Report: Jamaal Charles to visit with the Broncos

Jamaal Charles

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles will visit the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, reports Adam Schefter. The Broncos are also “enthused” about the visit according to Schefter.

Charles has played just eight games in the past two seasons and struggled in the three games he played last season. He’s 30 years old and has a long injury history.

Moreover, much of Denver’s struggles in the running game for the past two years have been brought on by their offensive line, not so much C.J. Anderson. The Broncos took steps to solving that at the draft, taking tackle Garret Bolles in the first round, but this is still a team that finished 18th in adjusted line yards last season, per Football Outsiders.

Should they sign Charles, Anderson would be a formidable backup, but it’s hard to see how Charles is the solution to their problem. And given Anderson’s own injury history — he tore his meniscus last season — the Broncos would be going into next season with two injury-prone backs and Devonta Booker, who averaged just 3.5 yards per carry in his rookie season.
