Mike Zimmer ‘more optimistic now than ever’ Teddy Bridgewater will return

Teddy Bridgewater will be one of the biggest bargains among NFL free agents
Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings chose not to pick up quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s fifth-year option. Bridgewater is still recovering from a horrible knee injury he sustained in the 2016 preseason. He is expected to miss the entire 2017 season at this time.

With that in mind, Mike Zimmer’s latest comment about Bridgewater is a bit interesting.

Perhaps Bridgewater is actually getting closer to a return than we realize. Or perhaps the Vikings are willing to just be patient until their quarterback is able to make a healthy return, whenever that actually will be.

Recently, Bridgewater was spotted dropping back and passing, which is quite a landmark in his recovery process.

On the other side of things, this news makes things a bit awkward for quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford is signed with the Vikings only through the 2017 season.

Either way, it is encouraging to hear that the Vikings have not given up hope on Bridgewater making a return.
