Report: ‘Mounting concerns’ top CB prospect Marshon Lattimore has ‘chronic hamstring issues’

Marshon Lattimore

Former Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore is widely considered as a premier talent heading into the 2017 NFL Draft, but concerns about his hamstring issues could potentially cause a draft-day tumble.

Writing about Lattimore’s teammate at Ohio State, Gareon Conley, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports dropped this nugget of information: “Teams have mounting concerns about his teammate, Marshon Lattimore, and what some clubs believe could be chronic hamstring issues.”

That Lattimore has dealt with significant hamstring issues in the past is not up for debate. He needed surgery to repair an ailing, prolonged hamstring injury a a freshman in 2014. Then he missed time as a redshirt freshman in 2015, appearing in just three games due to more hamstring issues.

A breakout campaign this past year has NFL scouts drooling over Lattimore’s potential. He tallied 41 tackles, four interceptions and one pick-six. Then at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, he torched the track, running a 4.36-second 40 while posting top-three scores in both the vertical and broad jump.

Unfortunately, he also suffered what was first reported as a hamstring issue, which he later downplayed and said was a hip flexor injury.

Needless to say, that NFL teams might consider his hamstring issues to be a chronic thing isn’t all that shocking. Whether it drops him down into the bottom half of the first round, or out of Round 1 completely, remains to be seen.
