NFL scout: Deshaun Watson ‘better than Dak Prescott’

Deshaun Watson is one of the best quarterback options available now that Tony Romo has decided to retire

Dak Prescott took the NFL world by storm as a rookie in 2016. So it’s safe to say that teams are looking for a guy who can do the same in 2017. One NFL scout believes that Deshaun Watson can be that guy.

In fact, that scout told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Watson is actually better than Prescott.

“You can say he’s better than Dak Prescott,” the scout said, per McGinn. “Total winner. Highly poised. Top intangibles. Lot of predetermined throws. Going to need a lot of work, like all these guys from the spread.”

While the scout is unnamed, the last line certainly seems like something of a hedge. It’s true that all players — especially incoming rookies — need to improve. Even understanding that, “going to need a lot of work” doesn’t quite jive with someone who’s supposed to be better than Prescott.

Prescott had a stellar rookie season for the Dallas Cowboys. He completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,667 yards with 23 touchdowns, only four interceptions and a 104.9 passer rating. On the ground, Prescott added 282 yards and six scores.

There’s certainly some room for an incoming rookie to improve on those numbers. But if Watson or any quarterback in the class of 2017 does so, it will be quite impressive. At least one person thinks it could happen.
