Report: Eagles sign WR Torrey Smith to three-year, $15 million deal

Torrey Smith

The Philadelphia Eagles have landed a deep threat for young quarterback Carson Wentz, as Torrey Smith is reportedly headed to the City of Brotherly Love.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith is being signed to a three-year deal worth $15 million.

Smith was a big-ticket free agent in 2015 when he signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. However, after two seasons with the club in which Smith was ill used and saw his targets drop precipitously, he was released just in time to take advantage of free agency this offseason.

It was rumored that he’d be headed back to Baltimore for a reunion with the Ravens, but the Eagles didn’t let the opportunity to add speed on the outside pass them by.

One of the NFL’s premier deep threats, Smith has caught 266 passes for 4,521 yards and 37 touchdowns in his six-year career. He has the potential to be a very nice weapon for Wentz, who desperately needs help at the receiver position.
