Report: Browns ‘strongly considering’ Mitch Trubisky with first pick

Bears, Mitch Trubisky

It has long been assumed that the Cleveland Browns would take Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft.

Garrett is seen as the consensus top overall prospect in the draft. He also fills a position of need for a Browns squad that won one game last season.

Add in the fact that none of the top quarterbacks in this year’s class can be considered sure-fire franchise players, and it makes sense that Cleveland might look elsewhere for a fix there.

This could all now potentially be thrown out the window.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are ‘strongly considering’ taking North Carolina product Mitch Trubisky No. 1 overall in the draft.

“The Browns are strongly considering drafting hometown boy Mitch Trubisky No. 1 overall, league sources tell cleveland.com,” the report says.”

Now, it’s important to note that reports came out Wednesday suggesting that Cleveland might be willing to move the No. 1 overall pick. The team could simply be pushing this information through the media in order to see if another squad might bite for either Garrett or one of the top quarterbacks in the class.

One thing is readily apparent here: Cleveland needs to address the quarterback position. Whether that’s in free agency, via a trade or through the draft remains to be seen.
