Magazine names Theo Epstein ‘greatest leader in the world’

Fortune magazine’s list of World’s Greatest Leaders possesses the names of Pope Francis, Melinda Gates and John McCain.

Guess who is listed at number one?

None other than the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, Theo Epstein.

This past year’s World Series was not only one of the highest-rated television spectacles, but the Cubs won the title for the first time in over 100 years. Epstein broke curses and started a rebuilding program other front office execs strive to replicate.

“As the Cubs fought to end a 108-year championship drought, television ratings for the World Series soared by almost 50%,” the Fortune article explained.

Epstein brought even the most casual fans into America’s favorite pastime gushing at the chance to watch history being made.

The plan began on a hotel napkin and turned into a celebration sharing champagne with Bill Murray. This signified one of the biggest turnarounds in sports and easily proves why he’s at the top of the list.
