Terry Bradshaw on Brock Osweiler: ‘He’s bad’ and ‘I don’t like him’

Brock Osweiler

After a dismal 2017 season, the Brock Osweiler fan club is not a big group. One man who’s not a member is Terry Bradshaw, who ripped the Houston Texans quarterback.

“He’s bad; I don’t like him,” Bradshaw said, per Jerome Solomon of The Houston Chronicle. The attention then turned to what the Texans should do. Bradshaw didn’t have much of a clue.  “I don’t have a clue, they haven’t done anything right yet. I don’t see … Osweiler’s too slow for me. He’s way too slow. That’s just me. I don’t like him (and) I said so.”

Okay, then. Tell us how you really feel next time.

But as harsh as those comments were, it’s hard to argue much with Bradshaw. Osweiler put up dismal numbers in 2017. He completed only 59 percent of his passes for 2,957 yards, 15 touchdowns, 16 interceptions and an abysmal 72.2 passer rating. Worse than the numbers is the fact that nothing Osweiler did in 2016 gave anyone reason to think that 2017 will be any better.

Unfortunately for Texans fans, Osweiler is unlikely to go anywhere next season. Even with many teams looking for quarterback help and a thin draft class and free agent market, Osweiler has no trade value. He’s guaranteed $34 million over the next three years. The light at the end of the tunnel is that $25 million of that is due in 2017. So, Houston releasing him after 2017 and eating the $9 million over 2018 and 2019 is a realistic scenario.

Unfortunately, that means another year of Texans’ fans either watching Osweiler struggle, or knowing that a bench player is eating much of the team’s salary cap. It’s important for Houston’s fans to know that they aren’t the only ones who are frustrated. Even an NFL Hall of Famer who has nothing to do with the franchise has a strong, negative opinion.
