Report: Ryan Grigson relieved of duties at Colts GM

After five years of manning the general manager position for the Indianapolis Colts, Ryan Grigson has reportedly been relieved of his duties.

Hired in 2012, the best thing Grigson ever did was pick Andrew Luck No. 1 overall that year. But that’s about all we can laud.

Colts fans everywhere are likely rejoicing over this news, as Grigson continuously failed to stock Indianapolis’ roster with talent on defense. He also failed to provide Luck with adequate protection up front and was responsible for a number of failed trades and free agency acquisitions, most notably giving up a first-round pick for bust running back Trent Richardson.

He also famously blamed the contract he orchestrated for Luck as the reason he couldn’t succeed at providing talent on the defensive side of the ball — an absurd claim.

The biggest question now is what comes next for the Colts. Last week, it was reported that owner Jim Irsay has been doing his best to lure former quarterback Peyton Manning to come aboard as a director of football operations in a John Elway type role (more on that here).

One also wonders if this signals the impending doom of head coach Chuck Pagano, who hasn’t exactly done a bang up job developing the talent he has had on the roster. That said, it appears his job is safe…for now.

One thing is for sure: The Colts are finally going to get some new direction, which one hopes bodes well for the future of the organization and its talented quarterback.
